John Glenn High School offers a variety of courses in the Visual Arts. The year-long length of these courses provides the students the opportunity to dive deep into the subject matter and allows the faculty to bring out the best in their students.
ART ONE This course is a general introduction to visual art with an emphasis on skill development. Students learn how to draw and paint, going from the basics to more complex creative projects. May be taken as a Fine Arts requirement or an elective.
ADVANCED ART (Prerequisite: Student must complete both Art 1A and 1B with a grade of “C” or better or teacher approval) Students in Advanced Art produce high level artwork with an emphasis on personal expression and creativity. Traditional materials such as pencil are used along with the introduction to oil painting. This class establishes the necessary foundation for taking the AP Studio Art class
AP STUDIO ART (Prerequisite: Student must complete both Advanced Art A and B with a with a grade of “C” or better and/or teacher approval) The AP Studio class is designed for the students who are seriously interested in Art after high school. AP Studio is not based on a written examination. Instead, students create a portfolio of college-level artwork for evaluation by the College Board. Successful passing of the AP Studio portfolio review will earn the student college credit. This class is for the highly motivated art student.
DRAWING & PAINTING (Prerequisite: Student must complete both AP Studio Art A and B with a with a grade of “C” or better and/or teacher approval) This course is only available to highly motivated and skilled students who want to focus on developing their professional/academic portfolio. Students work in tandem with the teacher to create a self-directed artistic program based on the student’s personal interests and artistic/professional goals.
